The cards from 1 to 10 are basically as is, 1 is 1 point, 2 is 2 points and so on. Picture cards such as Jack, Queen, King, are 10 points each. Ace is either 1, or 10 or 11 points.
2 cards are dealt to you face down. If you get a 10 or picture card follwed with an Ace, that’s called blackjack, and you automatically win the round, even if the dealer manages to get 21 points with 3 or more cards. The only way is for the dealer to have a blackjack as well. Then that is called a push, where neither party wins and you get back all your chips.
In a second more common scenario, again 2 cards are dealt to you face down. Say you now have a 5 and a 10. You request for another card. The dealer deals you a 5. So in this case, you have a total points of 20. Which is quite a strong hand, because you’re just 1 point shy of 21.
The dealer now proceeds to deal cards to himself. He needs a mimimum total points of 20 to call a draw, or 21 points to win. If he gets more then 21 points, you automatically win.
